A Grey squirrel in Westoe cem. today. First time Jan has seen a one here and I definately haven't but its no great surprise really with them being in Harton cem. and ones being seen in Marine park. Looks like the feeders this winter in Westoe cem. might be getting visited by another crowd pleaser or two.

Looks like we might have to replace the plastic feeders with something a bit more robust then Steve!

Hi Folks,
I had the pleasure of seeing two Fox cubs on the coast road between Marsden & Whitburn at c5:30 this morning (one cub at each location)
Im also reliably informed of another five sightings in the borough (3 Westoe & 2 Simonside) at similar times seems like Mr. Todd & his extended family are doing ok in South Tyneside
Cheers,
Dougie.

Young female Grey Seal in Frenchmans Bay this morning along with the Scoters and RTD which seem to be regulars down here now. Also when I was scouring the sea for more wildlife I thought I had a Flying fish but think it might have been some kind of fish under attack as it leapt a couple of feet out of the water

Possibly a seatrout or salmon at this time of year John. Funnily enough I spotted a "boil" just off the first bay the other morning which turned into a frenzied gull feed fest within seconds, that must have also been predatory fish attacking sprat or sandeel shoals.

There is a run of salmon and seatrout close inshore every year and you can guarantee that the seals will be in hot pursuit to top up their fat reserves for the winter. If you stand at the end of Shields pier on a night at this time of year you can hear them leaping clear of the water.

Hi Rob

I am no good at fish, this one was 1-2 feet in length I would guess and I only had a fleeting glimpse but judging by the size I thought it might have been Salmon/Trout or the likes but unsure of their movements at this time of year.

Regards
John
