visited a few sites today starting off with whitburn steel. all the usual gulls and waders, bar tailed godwit at the mudhole and a heron. WCP next, female blackcap at the back of the shearwater estate and 4 tree sparrows a first for me down here, again all the usaul species you'd expect to find, good numbers of green and goldfinches at least 3 goldcrest, and a sparrowhawk flew over with a blackbird in its talons. nowt at all down trow didnt even see any little owls. along the clifftop path a single snow bunting at frenchmans point, reports of there being 4 on the little beach yesterday, a pair of eider just off and half a dozen rock pipits as i made my way to marsden, back along the hedge not much there either. nice to bump into brian down WCP looking good with a new scope since i last seen him.

Great to see the Snow Bunting again down in Frenchmans, I think all the seed I put down around the area last year paid off.

I dont know if everyone is aware but there has been a juvenile Pomarine Skua at Roker Pier for the last couple of days. It has a really bad limp and is quite unmoved by the local fishermen, in fact it has been feeding at their feet. I went over at lunch time today, and at first it was on the far south pier but not long after it flew over to where we were and gave outstanding close views. If you havent seen the species close up, or fancy getting some decent photos I'd give it a shot as quick as you can cos it is something that doesnt happen very often.

Are you trying to tell us that you grew these birds from seed?

Next thing you will be trying to convince us that the stork brought them

"Are you trying to tell us that you grew these birds from seed?"

You walked right into that one John, laughed out loud when I read it.

Pom Skua from yesterday tea time.

Hi Sless

Thanks for the reply, I was getting worried until this morning and finally caught up with the LO in the bowl sitting in the usual place. Still no sign of the one in the second bay however.
