Had a day off today for a long bank holiday weekend - arranged to meet my pal Michael Eccles in the hope of some Dragonflies... Well the weather put paid to that so we ended up spending most of the day in the hides of Saltholme...

Started off visiting Phil Stead Hide at 10.15 only to find it was packed - no free seats at all, probably the early crowd in there before 10.00am..

Anyway we headed off to Saltholme Hide to beat the crowds in the hope of something close in.... We were not disappointed as 7 Curlew Sandpipers were frantically feeding on the mud just to the left of the hide. 4 Ruff, Pintail, Kestrel and Dunlin were other birds of note.

After quick cuppa off to the Wildlife watchpoint - nowt there of interest so decided to re-try the Phil Stead Hide.. Caught up with Little Egret x 2, Snipe x 5, Heron, Lapwings, Kestrel...

Called in at Cowpen Bewley in the hope of Brown Hawkers - no such luck. But an exceptionally friendly Crow allowed Michael to feed it from the hand and to pet it - great to watch....

Couple of pics of the Curlew Sandpipers & Little Egrets..

The Bonapartes gull was just off the cliffs at Whitburn steel at 6.30 tonight at high tide. Also 1 Med gull present and 1 Bar tailed godwit of note. Two other adult Med gulls present on the way back on the mid Leas section. (pity about the light!)

5x juv Mistle Thrushes on the roof this morning. Seems to have been a very successful breeding season for "garden birds" this year from what I have seen. God help us when we start the feeders back up!
