Hi Folks,
Female (cream crown)Marsh Harrier hunting over rape field on Cleadon Lane approx 7.30 – 8.45 this evening - SAFC academy pools will definitely be worth checking tomorrow.
The bird was a bit out of camera range, so record shots only.
Cheers, Dougie.

Hope he's still around tomorrow Chris! The call of the Yaffle is something I heard often (laughing at me looking for them mostly). The call is unmistakeable really. No sign when I went up after your alert as you know, but the Cem. was busy with kids and Dog walkers this evening so the "green goblin" could well have been keeping quiet if not moved off.

Will keep my ears open and will pop into the cemetery tomorrow and have a scout about. Hope to see you at the ringing tomorrow morning.

That Marsh Harrier is a cracking find Dougie - will definitely try the Academy Pools tomorrow (if I am not dragged kicking and screaming to a car boot sale... ) :)

Visited the "now closed off area" for cars at lizard point this afternoon to view Jack rock as its been a while since I walked this section of our coastline.
I only mentioned to Dougie this morning that the Cormorant colony on Marsden rock looked small and he agreed with me. This afternoon I found out why! Over half of the nesting Cormorant colony have returned to Jack rock again this year, and its the first time like I have mentioned I have witnessed this for myself....(would think this has been recorded?).
Razorbills seemed to have returned to familiar nest ledges now also.

Thanks lads, I’d been around that area most of the day with not a lot to show for it, but decided to pop back tonight for an hour or so, just in case – pleased I did.....

Cheers, Dougie.

PS, well done with the Yaffle in Westoe cemetery Chris. Green Woody’s are extremely rare in South Tyneside, so that’s an excellent find – well done mate.

Nice one John hopefully the "little's uns" will not fall victims to the mass of Herring gulls here but I doubt it. Last year we seen a single day or so old duckling swimming around here (not of Mallard origin) with out its mam. Didn't see it again after this.

I popped In to Marine Park today,I only counted 3 Chick's,look's as If Herring Gull's have been busy. Here's one of the duckling's.

Sounds like a nice walk Sid I bet the air was full of song along there. It was probably the same at the bird ringing hut at Whitburn only I couldn't hear anything above the noise of the group talking.

I see you know Jaymog our recent member.
