Good to meet up with everyone today at Souter and exchange Happy New Years.
Few birds around the Leas but Long Tailed Duck very distant in Marsden Bay and Snow Bunting very flighty around Frenchman's Bay area, thanks to Steve E & John S for heads up.

Met up with my good mate Michael_A today and had a very enjoyable day around the Gateshead hides..

Kingfisher kept us entertained for a good couple of hours and had to put up with pretty strong winds - that said his fishing technique was spot on..

Couple of Kingy pics from today.

The last ones a bit iffy - but i kind of like the way the water and fish slime has splashed all over as he beats the hell out of another stickleback

Interesting hybrid Tufty on Marine park this afternoon, possibly a Tufty/Pochard mix. Most of the tufty features but with a greyer back and brown colouration towards the tail...first thought was Scaup but no its not. (kicking myself for not having he camera with me on this visit.!).

Don't worry about it Steve - once upon a time on the 22 October 2009 (i'll never forget that bloody date) i didn't have a camera with me, because i left it in the boot cos the weather was crap . The result, I missed out on the chance of a nice set of Zeiss binoculars for the most informative photograph of 2009 - but all credit to Dougie for braving the weather & crap light and carrying his camera despite those conditions - must be down to his military training - never again
