Male sparrow hawk on the Marine park island this morning. A second brood of mallard ducklings have been wiped out this week by the gulls, the Canada young-uns looking canny though

Attached shot of Marsden Kestrel young about to fledge any time now, taken Friday gone.

Nice shot of the kestrels. Thanks for showing them to me last night mate.

Great time at Souter last night. Thanks to all those who made it happen. Good birds, good BBQ and good banter.

Cheers.

A few shots from S. Shields today.
The Pier Area: common terns with plenty of young, 4 sandwich terns, curlew, cormorants, turnstones, goldfinch and the usual gulls.
Souter: the usual here, but nice to see some of the young kittiwake flying.

Nice shots Ray, especially that last one of the Sarny tern! Great to see you again today.

My first Med. gull seen later today at 'Blacka hills' , regarding these birds on the move this time of year. First winter me thinks...?

South Shields Pier area yesterday.
100+ various terns consiting of common, sandwich, arctic and one or two odd balls, also pied wagtail, linnets, goldfinch, eider, cormorants, a single bar taied godwit on the main beach and couple of distant guillemot.
Not sure about image 1, It has white forehead. maybe just common. Also the young terns maybe arctic, but one of them has different coloured legs.
First time I've seen any godwits on this beach.

Very large raptor/hawk being mobbed by gulls ( hawk larger than bh gulls) over the entrance to Jarrow slake while I drove past at about 5.15 - very unusual. Looked similar colouration to Kestrel but MUCH bigger - very stiff wingbeats as it powered away over Tyne Dock. Anyone seen or heard anything - would love to know what it was
