A white wagtail and a couple of swallows were at the academy pools today, also while working on the ringing mound a sedge warbler was heard singing its little heart out.

Forgot to mention 5 swallows at the brigade hut on pier. And 1 very dark coloured shortie on trow rock (gun mound) it wasn't pleased to see me as I nearly stood on it. Later on scrub land at back of Masefield drive Biddick hall I came across another 20 plus Wheatears 7 grey wag and 10 or more mippits all in one big flock. Never seen so many together in one place. this. Good day came to an end as I was leaving for home. Turned round to se. 2 teenage. A---holes burn the whole field and surrounding trees n bushes down. GUTTED. Prob the same pieces of scum who are intent on burning Colliery woods and Station burn

Stuart you are obviously having a good time with the Wheatears I was chuffed to see one over the weekend!!

Were the scum burning the fields wearing black and white stripey tops by any chance? I can remember a few years ago catching some similar low lifes doing the same at Temple Park where I knew there were nesting Birds. I caught one of them and threatened to throw him on the fire- I can still remember the smell coming from the back of his trousers. Unfortunately you can't do that these days.

John I love seeing the martins and swallows. To me I know that Spring is here when you hear Skylarks singing and Chiff Chaffs are calling everywhere. When I hear them I know we've made it through another winter.
