Iceland gull oppsite the moor lane entrance to the accademy on the floode field at about 1 oclock. Single waxwing at the cattery near boldon flats that twig is a nuisance

Level crossing at Boldon. Since the pond has been partially cleared of reed it is once again starting to attract birds. Yesterday it had 10+ mallard. 8 teal. 2 tuffties. 2wren. 1reed bunting and 1 snipe which was showing well feeding on the ( spoil ) by the railway. This used to be a canny pond years ago. Its a shame only a small patch has been cleared. Could do with a few channels cleared in the reedbeds.

Do you remember the escaped Flamingo that was on there back in the 1970's Stuart?

All of the surrounding fields have been pretty much under water lately. My parents have the 2nd field up on the opposite side of the farm track and despite putting field drains in it's been underwater for long periods and unsuitable for grazing. On the plus side this seems to be attracting a lot more waders, ducks and gulls than ever before, but the resident partridge covey have disappeared this year. They're hoping to get some willow planted in the very near future to hopefully dry the ground out a bit.

Hi Rob. Yes I remember it well. Also frogs. Toads and what seemed like hundreds of newts and sticklebacks. I was a young kid in the early 70s and the pond and surrounding areas (the pig farms, boldon pit slag heaps
, spooky valley. The sticky ) to name a few was my playground ! That is where I discovered my love of nature and wildlife. 40yrs on and I'm still over there checking out the wildlife. I owe so much to my playground!
