Nice shots Derek and Dave. A bit better light makes all the difference.

Cheers Michael - one more from yesterday, just a couple of hundredths of a second too slow i think - a little bit too soft around its head..

That would have been a shot and a half Derek if it had been a little faster like you say but still a super pic all the same.

First shot from the 29th With Paul, probably a young/female bird, the other bird definitely looks like an adult male in its winter dullness. ( low quality distant shots.)

(no flask required Steve)

Good to have a crack-on with Barney Lad, Dave J and all the other birding folk down on the leas this brisk morning, hoping for to get a glimpse of the Shorties but no sign at 11.30 ish when i left.
Lapland Buntings still about but very flighty, large skein of Pinkies (i think ) over at around 10.30.
Thrilled to be back home to the freeze again.

Can anyone properly ID this Redpoll please? It looks like an arctic but unsure, got it late on while out with the hound. Thanks.

Try this site for id's they have some excellent birders who look in and usually come up with the right Id.
You will need a Flickr site to post your images though.

Keith,

Thanks. First time in the 5 months I've been a member here that I have had a chance to put anything in the yearly gallery. I hope to make a much larger contribution in 2013. Thank you for your help during the year.

Paul.
no bother Paul, just added a 2013 album so i look forward to seeing some of your shots in there.

Sorry about the late post, I managed to see the kumliens gull(a sub-species of iceland gull) at moor lane flooded field on new years eve, which rounded off the year nicely for me, this was the first year i have kept any sort of list and I ended up with 194 species in south tyneside. Peter Hogg had 198 which made it 203 between us. Just shows what a good variety of species for a small area we have
Good luck to everyone in the year ahead
