Nice hour on the Leas later today watching a Short-eared Owl hunting around the mound area (cheers Sless). A few more have been seen in this area earlier in the week, lets hope they hang about!.

Steve,

Nice photos but how did you manage the first one? That is you riding off on your bike isn't it?

Like Micky S i was at Saltholme again today - but it was bloody freezing so i didn't bother going for the SEO's or the Barn Owls on Greenabella - however had a nice hour in the company of a pair of Kestrels on the RSPB reserve and then picked up the Waxwings that were at the NNR Car Park at Greatham Creek..

Couple of pictures from today and the Barn Owl from yesterday:

6 Waxwings flitting around bushes next to East Boldon metro station this morning and 3 Stock Dove in Harton cem, first I've seen for a good few weeks.

Can't believe how quick the water level has dropped at Boldon flats, just crows, gulls and the odd duck there this morning. Is anybody putting the feeders up there this year?

South Shields today:
RT Diver close to the pier on little Haven side, which, on one occasion came up with a fair sized sand eel, first time I've seen this, as they usually eat there prey on the way up. Also cormorant, couple of shags, couple of guillemot and about 8 sanderling.
Good to se Steve & the Rat, when on the pier .
After dinner, continued along to the Leas, where we saw Steve again and couple of SE owls, which put on a descent show.
