Pier yesterday:

1 adult Roseate tern
about 30 Common terns around the pier and 2 Sandwich
4 Whimbrel with a Bar-tailed Godwit flew over north
3 Purple sands
8 Turnstones
about 20 Guillemots milling about and 8 Eiders.
4 Rock pipits

Pier Swallows still feeding a second brood.

3 Med. gulls along the Leas ( 2 near the Trow entrance road) the other oppposite Blacka hills, no show with the Marsden car park bird.

Whitburn steel area: plenty Oystercatchers and Redshanks but very few smaller waders (Sanderling and Dunlin). 6 Snipe on the rocks here and a few more flew off as we approached. Small group of Scoter flew north.

Pier: 4 Roseates in the area (2 ads and 2 juvs), 20 or so Common terns. 2 s/p Barwits over north and a single Knot.

juv med gull and lots of black headed gulls on the water at whitburn steel this evening between 6.45 and 8pm. dozens of smaller waders,redshank and a half dozen oystercatcher and 5 curlew right on high tide. also 8 barwit of note not a single tern seen though. approx. 30 sand martin overhead. also an injured common gull

Med gull on bents park football pitches this morning, usual couple of pied wagtails there too as i passed

west patures this morning 9.30-10.45 marsh harrier over the ploughed field where west pastures road meets follingsby lane, huge flock of greenfich and linnet 800-1000 birds feeding on the ploughed field.
boldon flats 1 greenshank, 1 snipe, shoveller, wigeon, yellow wagtail, jay flew along the back near the houses.

Seven pied wagtails around gypsies green bandstand tonight, 30-40 house martins perching on the telegraph wires behind . Wheatear back of the pier sea scout hut. Swallows still haven't fledged here yet

forgot to mention, 2 swifts at west pastures this morning, first ones i've seen for a while. dont know if anyone has a photo for the 2012 birdlist, opportunities to get one will soon dissappear.

Jackies beach at 5.30 this evening had plenty of waders. Redshank - 25, ringed plover 12, sanderling - 5, oystercatcher -8, turnstone 9, and singles of ruff and knot.

Also two terns resting on a rock about 30m out with waders but couldn't identify them. - they had black heads

3 whinchat at accademy 4.30pm, no sign of the kingfisher spotted here today at about 1.15pm, moving from pool to pool when disturbed by dogwalkers.

Greenshank on flooded field between Nissan and houses at 90 degree bend in road (next to Barmston pond footpath) at 7:30am. Peregrine over Souter at 9am. Good numbers of Mallard, Tufties, Coot and Cormorant on the Academy Pools at 11am. 16 LTT in Harton cem at lunchtime.
