Back on track now. I was out with the dogs this morning and heard a bird song/call I'd not heard for years. It took me a minute or two to work out what it was. I turned a corner and there on top of a tree was a Mistle Trush calling for all it was worth.
Whilst not as tuneful, diverse or melodic as it's smaller cousin, it was still a lovely thing to here. I often hear them trilling to scare off Spuggiehawks but I'd forgotten what their call is like!!
I know we are still in the grip of winter but hearing this did make it feel that spring is not far off! A special moment.

Just reminded me Mick there were a pair on the Bents (Dragon) yesterday when coming home with the wife and dog. We had gone for a quiet walk and no kidding it was akin to Picadilly Circus down on Shields front and Marine Park. Something to do with the school hols and sunshine.

Mick, the sound of a Mistle thrush singing is a joy to my ears its so spring like!

..............................
A Peregrine flew eastwards over the Tyne at Hebburn this morning at 7am... the Cormorants (what was left of the roost on the crane) did'nt flinch. But the local strag population made the birds where abouts known to me.

Hi Folks, I'm reliably informed there's a flock of Waxwing's on Portberry Street, South Shields, right now (3.45pm)

Hope the link works...

I went to look to see if I could find either the bittern or some owls at Rainton. didn't see either but the arctic redpoll I had been told about a few weeks ago was still there. I think this is it? I was shown it through a telescope but they were very flighty, I tried to get a shot of the right one.
