another walk around whitburn cp this evening produced my first linnets of the year, a flock of 9. also between a dozen and 20 goldcrest along the path to the obs, seemed like they were everywhere one was sitting on top of the fenceabout 10 foot away, for a couple of minutes, petty i didnt have the camera. a few trees have been chopped down to make way for the bridle path 2 of the nice conifers on the approach path are gone. 7 toads were rescued by the kids and put in the reeded pond where there was 3 reed bunitng.

Had my closest ever experience of an SEO at a well known site in County Durham today (thanks to DCJ for tip off's) - the bird let me approach very slowly to the point that it was almost filling the frame in the viewfinder (approx 20 feet). Took a good few hundred shots as it sat and took in the view, shame i was shooting towards the light, but beggars can't be choosers

Once i was comfortable i had a good selection of relatively share pics (shots between 1/4 and 1/40 second) - i backed away to leave him in peace - the best experience i've ever had with such a majestic bird

Couple of shots ..

Alright John, its got rings on both legs, saw it yesterday along the leas hedge where the grass is cut for the miniture aircraft runway. Not sure if the second gull is the marsden carpark bird, seems to have the same white tip to its bill but its been a while since i've been up to see it
