Don't think so Steve,I've looked for a while on the Web but still cannot find its ID,I thought it might have been the Giant Peacock moth from Europe with having the eye spots but it's the wrong colour............................Laurence :)

I had a look at that John but the colouring is all wrong for the Emperor moth, my guess is that it's been captive bred and has escaped or been released, still don't know what kind it is. I found it at Roker, didn't Roker martin breed such things?..........................Laurence :)

I took this photo of this insect in August this year in central France thinking it would be simple to identify it. I have tried online using many sites and cannot find out what it is.

I think it is a bee but could be a wasp or hoveryfly, can anyone help?

Thanks

Brian

I took this photo whislt in France this year of a caterpillar crawling across a footpath. I told the kids not to pick it up just in case they were allergic to it. Good job I did as I have just managed to identify it as the caterpillar of the brown tailed moth which tends to cause horrible rashes.
