Seen these in Bents park Sid a couple of weeks back...Thought maybe the same fungi as yours but the early stages of growth looks completely different. Very interesting this Fungi lark! (and thanks to Dougie got my gremlins sorted with posting pics. on here.).

Yes Steve,There's some strange Fungi, regarding my last photo theres black stem's on bottom of Fungi,I'll get another photo at a later date see how It develope's...(good comp for next year see who photograph's largest fungi),Also be Interesting to find out all type's of fungi growing In South Tyneside.

The early stages developing on this tree stump I can only describe as looking like "expanding foam".

Steve, your photo is some kind of disc fungus, there's a few similar types of "perziza" if you want to do a search for it.

Had another look at your photo, enlarged, Sid and I'm thinking more likely candle-snuff fungus.

Not really Sid, just curious like yourself with a "need to know attitude". You should get yourself to Chopwell Woods, we got about 17 different species this time last year.

Saying that I passed 5 different species in Harton Cem today and I wasn't really looking for them, it's a lot closer to home!

How did this plant start growing on the Gun Rock in Trow ? and will it survive the winter ?

Pretty sure it wasn't here last year or last week.
