I've got a few photo's of the female,It was the male I've been trying to get,I wonder If the female give's out some kind of scent, when she raised the tail of her body the male just seemed to land next to her,So I'll watch for this again.

Went out with my camera for the first time in what seems like ages this morning. Went out with the macro lens on and got my first wall brown of the year.

Great visit to Colliery wood today, and managed to see my first Dingy skippers! about 6 of the critters were on the wing along with loads of small heaths, blues and small skippers. 2 four spot chasers on the pond here.

Decided to have a trip to Bishop Middleham Quarry today to do some macro photography. Plenty of butterflies around but very flighty. Saw male and female of orange tip and common blue. Also saw what I think was a cinnibar moth but again no photos. Others include small heath and a few I couldn't identify.

Apart from the obvious ones any help in identifying the photos would be great. That insect in photo 4 must be close to having the longest antenna of any fly!!!

Saw a small copper on Cleadon Hills tonight this is the first time that I have seen this species here.

Brian

Derek your photos never cease to amaze me! Do you use a ring flash unit for the lighting?

Thanks Rob - no flash just natural sun light, taken with my AF-S 300 f4 and 52mm of extension tube to allow greater magnification and a bit closer focus.

Hi Sid - Its 95% almost guaranteed a Common Blue - although male Common Blue and male Holly Blue do look very similar with wings open - the Holly Blue has bolder black colouration at the wing tips - only sure fire way to id is from wings shut.
