Butterfly season is now in full swing.... A visit today looking for Orange tips in the Scotch est.dene(Inverness rd. dene) and certain sections of Station burn resulted in some of the best numbers I have seen here for the last few years. Excellent number on the wing but none settled to be photographed whilst we visited. We only seen males on this visit but plenty of them. Also loads of Peacocks, Green viened whites, Small whites and Small tort.shells and a couple of Speckled woods... one of which settled, about the only Butterfly that did!.

Trip out to the moors this afternoon in the search for Green Hairstreak.

Finally found a few at Muggleswick Common as well as Speckled Wood and Peacocks plus what may have been a Dingy Skipper but i didn't get a good enough look at it - so it may well have been a Latticed or Common Heath Moth....

Anyway one of the shots from this afternoon..

Nice walk around Testo's pond this afternoon resulted in our first Damesflies of the year. I am not the best with these critters so if I get the names wrong please put me right.
4 Different species seen- Large Reds(wheeling and oviposting!), Common blue, Blue tailed and Azure(I think?).
