Has anyone noticed that there is a distinct lack of bumble bees this year? The first buddleia (globosa) is now out in my garden and is normally smothered in bumble bees but there are only one or two very small ones on it (this year's young??). Similarly ceanothis is in full bloom and the bees love this but again no bumble bees.

Last night I walked the dog along the Leas and after passing over hundreds of yards of ground covered in clover I hardly saw any bumble bees at all - no I didn't stand on them before someone comes up with that one.

I wonder if this is due to the cold March? Seems it is to blame for everything else

Good to meet up today Sid, enjoyed the crack, maybe not as much as the other couple we came accross LOL.
Good to see the burnets up N about, and thanks for the guided tour, another lovely area to visit.

Pic 7 was when we were photographing the burnets, 8 was after you left, when we went along the end near the Tyne. The plume moth had seen better days.
